Ugly.

That’s what the they called me,

As I stand near my locker.

The word  UGLY rings in my thoughts,

Like an ongoing siren.

On the  bus,                                                                                                                                                                      (Ugly, Ugly, Ugly)

The walk from the bus stop to home,

(Ugly,Ugly, Ugly)

During Recess.

(Ugly, Ugly,Ugly)

But as I stare into the ugliness.

Looking at the disgusting reflection of me,

I find something no one else cares to see.

Something hidden deep inside,

so perfectly hidden no one in the outside world can find.

Beauty.

Underneath all the tears

(Beauty, Beauty, Beauty)

underneath all the pain.

(Beauty, Beauty, Beauty)

I pushed everything those girls said away,

Everything those boys did away.

On the Playground,

The walk from the bus stop to home,

On the bus.

I realized that if I wasn’t looked at as worthy for them,

At least I felt worthy of myself.

I learned that night in front of the mirror,

That you don’t have to worry about what people think.

Because ugly is really just what they say

When they can’t see the beauty behind

The author's comments:

I can't really relate to this peice. I wrote this in dedication for a friend, she was being bullied because of the kids at school. They body - shamed her and called words like Ugly and Fat. So ,I decided to dedicate this peice to her. By the way, this is my first  peice that i've published on to TeenInk.
