Huddled in bed,
Waiting, paralyzed.
Opening eyes wide,
Trying to pierce the impenetrable darkness
Surrounding you.
You hear a small noise.
What was that?
You don’t know if it was even real…
You feel knots tying themselves in the pit of your stomach.
All alone in the dark…
All the dark shadows shading the corners of the room.
All the blurry lumpy unrecognizable shapes placed around the room.
You know your mind is twisting things to be as terrifying as imaginable,
Mind made monsters staring back from just beyond your line of sight.
But you can’t help but to fear.
Fear so strong it washes over any rational thought.
Wait…
Just wait until the sun comes up,
You’ll be safe then.
Just try to wait.
Wait for the darkness to fall.
Wait until morning.
Wait until this bubbling fear seems distant,
Until this feeling of terror fades into a belittled memory.
Until you feel safe again.
Until you can get up and live through the day and laugh and play,
Forgetting all the fear you are feeling right now.
Just close your eyes…
Just wait.
