So close yet so far

The Black forest brought a deep sense of fear with it
A revering longing as you surrender to it
Dark even in day; but at night
It became an impenetrable abyss
Of unknown and apprehension within its heart
As black marble it was with its traps and ambushes
Enticing, luring you to its sense of painful emptiness
The dark forest didn't hide or contain a creature
It was the beast itself
Drowning you in its sense of loss
Unsighted, unseen from preying eyes
Once you entered the tangle of undergrowth
You would never get out; drowned in the darkness of night
The forest spoke with blood-chilling sounds
Low grumbles, snarls that resounded
Throughout the whole place, echoing off trees and leaves
An evil cackle when you tried to escape
For all its paths led to its very center
With no trail back to its many, vast entranced
Between trees or busses through fake paths
The victims of the insane place
Found themselves sinking into a black mere
That turned silver to the slightest touch
Silver shining oasis of enticement
A weird slime enveloping them
Trapped within the depths of its layers
Of uncertainty and unclear grounds
Beware of the creature the black forest is
