Helpless

The last of the pouring rain
quickly fills the streams,
creeks, and rivers.
A desperate dog standing
on a fallen log is trapped on the side
of the river bank.
The dog stands soaking
wet. No way
to get back on solid ground.
The quick moving current dislodges
the log into the creek merging with the
rapid river with water gushing in all directions.
He must balance to hang on. Men
watch in amazement as the flood
carries the helpless pup.
A man runs
to help - when he returns
he sadly looks down and shakes his head.
