“The poet's job is to put into words those feelings we all have that are so deep, so important, and yet so difficult to name, to tell the truth in such a beautiful way, that people cannot live without it.”
― JaneKenyon

What happened to your innocence?
What happened to your dreams?
What happened to your hope?
What happened to your eyes that gleamed?

What happened to the tooth fairy?
What happen to the Easter bunny?
What happened to Santa Claus?
What happened to everything being funny?

What happened to loving life?
What happened to wishing on dandelions?
What happened to that sweet child?
What happened to hardly ever crying?

What happened to wanting to be a princess or astronaut?
What happened to the biggest choice being which color crayon to use?
What happened to believing in yourself?
What happened to the biggest problem being 2+2?

What happened to life moving too slow?
What happened to thinking the world wasn't a cruel place?
What happened to all those joyful times?
What happened to the toothless smile that always occupied your face?

What happened to actually wanting to grow up?
What happened to never having to put on a show?
What happened to not worrying about the future?
What happened to home being something you know?

I know what happened
What made your mind corrupt
It's not something we can run away or hide from
You see, we simply just grew up
