Lasting Impression

Don’t want no diamonds, or no pearls,
And I’ve been a pretty darn lucky girl.
But the sun in the morning is not all I need,
And the moon at night keeps me from sleep.
I need more than lunar bodies to satisfy this,
A craving for acceptance, a longing to be missed.
Don’t want a mansion or a yacht,
And I’ve learned to be happy with what I’ve got.
Yet I ask and I ask what I can possibly do,
To leave a lasting impression on you.

My poem somewhat refers to the song "I Got the Sun in the Morning" from Annie Get Your Gun.
