"It is the faithless who know love's tragedies." Oscar Wilde

The woman stared at the empty chair
Waiting for her heart to return
She waited for hours for a phone call of mail
But all that she got was an urn

For months, she shat, with life unclear
Holding a letter in her hands
Crumpled and wrinkled and stained with tears
Their time had long since passed

Years went by and finally there’s peace
She waited for them at the door
She never realized the boys on the fireplace
Were never returning home

And so many people have lost and now mourn
Setting places for those who won’t eat
Clothes go unworn and many hearts will stay torn
Will this suffering ever cease?

“The poet's job is to put into words those feelings we all have that are so deep, so important, and yet so difficult to name, to tell the truth in such a beautiful way, that people cannot live without it.”
― JaneKenyon
