"Clever people will recognize and tolerate nothing but cleverness." -Anonymous

He marches through an open arch
and bows adoring crowds
into a frenzy
of cheers.

He doesn’t know that I watch for
him to make just one more
mistake… like
yesterday.

He billows away with a smile on
his face, so fake like
the start of his
new reign.

He doesn’t know how to run the
world. When a king
can’t even run
a castle

who does he call on but me? I’ll
do the work while he
feasts on tiny
peasants.

The author's comments:
I checked because I wasn't sure, but I did find that a ballad is simply a poem narrating a story in short stanzas; it doesn't HAVE to be about love. Please comment - if you don't like it, please tell your reasons so I can take your criticisms into account. Thank you!
