Fever

My friends all say they know they saw it coming,
And my family shook their heads screaming start running
But someone somewhere told me
That we were for us only
And I ran, yes I did, but I took you with me…

And I can feel a fever coming on
Nothing’s clear except the fear that it’s all my fault
And your words taste like ice, deep below the warmth
So I’ll close my eyes, and stay here until I’m sure, you’re
Long gone

You laughed afterword and said you’d had it all planned,
And I saw a flash of beauty that made me love what I couldn’t stand
See I always believed in you and I’d like to think you were the same for me
But that was before I watched you pick me up and tear out my credibility

But someone somewhere told me
That we were for us only
And I ran, yes I did, but I took you with me…

And I can feel a fever coming on
Nothing’s clear except the fear I did nothing at all
And your words taste like ice, deep below the warmth
So I’ll close my eyes, and stay here until I’m sure, you’re
Long gone

But someone somewhere warned me
That you were all for you, only
I’m leaving, yes I am, but I don’t know where I’m going

And I hover by the thermometer waiting for your call
But as long as I keep quiet, I’ll hear nothing at all
And as much as I want to hate you and tear you down
I know I never can, not as long as you’re still around
