Furies

She spent her life in darkness
With envy in her eyes
Hating their silvery, beating hearts
And all that they implied.

She spent her days in weaving
With purest silver thread.
She spent her days in waiting
‘Till all of them were dead.

Their beating hearts were silver;
Their pulsing souls were grey.
She spent her life in loathing
Of things they’d do and say.

She passed her years despising
The threads that were their lives.
She spent her life in darkness
With envy in her eyes.

It just sort of popped into my head one day, and then when I was finished I realized the "she" reminded me of the Weird Sisters in Greek mythology who measure peoples' lives with string. Then I remembered that those were the Fates, not the Furies, but I had already grown attached to the title.

It was awesome. I think this is a very fitting description of the greek Furies :)

Furies, Fates, whatever. I really love this poem. The rhymes are a nice touch, and the flow is perfect, as well as the imagery. I love the repitition of this at the beginning and the end: "She spent her life in darkness/With envy in her eyes." Amazing!!! :)
