Innocence is the Key to Life

I lay down to bed
The TV muted of sound
Not a word to be said
Nobody else to be found

And as I drift off to sleep
You slowly open the door
I think nothing of it
You’ve been here many times before

But this time it’s different
For you just turned the lock
So I act fast asleep
I try to make you stop

The dogs are outside
Mom and dad at the bar
I’m stuck in this riptide
Is this really what you are?

I’m still very young
Seven at the most
But I know the word for this
It is no ghost

You’re my brother’s best friend
You’ve been here since day one
I thought of you as family
But I should have known to run

The dogs are outside
Mom and dad at the bar
It’s just me and you here
This is going way too far

Trying to fake sleep,
Yet aware of every touch
I can’t help but to weep
The pain is just too much

And just as I decide to give up
The dogs begin to bark
Unaware of what is going on,
Dad puts the car in park

Slowly, hesitantly, you arise to walk away
And just as I thought it was over
You gave one last fleeting look
That made my soul decay

Dad saw you leave the room
And just like that he knew
A father always knows
When his daughter’s world goes boom

“Touch my kid again, boy
And I’ll make sure you pay”
But daddy, he did, he did
It hurts to this very day

Daddy, I know he’s good as your son
That’s why he’s still around
But you might as well pick up that gun
And shoot me to the ground

To you, dear brother, I have but one thing to say
Although forgiveness is divine
It is not something I can give
When the purity you took was mine

This is why I urge you all to know
The innocence of a child
Is something one should never take
As the loss of something so precious
Can make even the strongest break

I'm sorry about this happening, but this a truly amazing poem, i'm in love with it. Everything really took my breath away, truly really good!
