"Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened." Dr.Seuss

Shadows performing their ominous dance.
Moans drifting through skeleton trees.
Harsh declarations and cruel, unjust chants.
A woman's aching cries and shaking pleads.

Searching and longing for a place called home.
Hoping to embrace the warmth of the ground.
Feeling an icy chill that shivers the bone.
Realize acceptance will never be found.

Fear overcomes every thought, every sense.
Rumors spread toward an innocent young girl.
Stories of rejection become immense.
A girl's cries lost as smoke starts to unfurl.

See the girl that dares to be different.
Whisper that she is evil, the devil's spawn.
Press the crucifix close, screams consistent.
Dreams of tranquility, forever gone

I was inspired to write this poem after reading 'The Crucible' in my English class. I was so engrossed in this sad story, I wrote this poem so I would never forget it.
