There was a day

A rainy day

The skies were darkened

The clouds were gray

There was a boy

A little boy

Who sat in a car

With his favorite toy

And there was a man

A handsome man

Who drove the car

Filled with his clan

And there was a wife

A happy wife

Who was without grief

And without strife

There was a quail

A mother quail

Who crossed the road

With a baby trail

There was a rail

A broken rail

Crushed in the swerve

To save the quail

Then there was a scream

A horrid scream

From the wounded wife

And her injured team

There was a grieving

A terrible grieving

While the loving wife

Was quickly leaving

There was the crying

The tearful crying

In the hospital

Where the wife was dying

There was a night

A depressing night

Where the woman went

When she saw the light

There was the boy

The boy who said

“Will the sun keep

shining overhead?”

There was the sun

Who shone again

Without pitying

Boys, wives and men.
