Go: A swimming poem

May 27, 2010
My coach: “Are you ready?”
Me: “I think so.”
The whistle blows
She shouts, “GO GO!”
I dive in
I’m swimming fast
Way too fast
I’m running out of gas
I can’t swim
But I got to try
I turn my head
I think I’m gonna die
Not going to make it
Hit the wall
They pulled me out
Done after them all
Got to try
Got to try
My coach:
“C’mon, it’s time for Fly.”
I dove I raced
I swam I turned
But I still lose
My coach concerned
She says to chill
Just take a break
I almost give in
Cause all over I ache
But I stand up tall
And shake my head
If I don’t push through
I’ll never get ahead
Tears are falling
But I can’t rest
If I don’t work,
I don’t get my best
I can’t ever give up
I can’t ever give in
I have to try, but I
don’t have to win
Never gonna stop
till I reach my best
Next day on the blocks
“Are you ready?”
