I'll Tell You a Secret

Lean in close and I’ll tell you a secret
But first promise to spread it to whoever needs it
The secret to happiness is simple and plain
Removed from religion or monetary gain
The thing that controls your happiness is you
It’s unimportant what anyone else might think or do
So many people choose to focus on the negative
Or worse to use drugs or sex as a sedative
You don’t really have to be famous or rich
In order to lift yourself from an emotional ditch
Whenever you’re in times of need or strife
Take comfort in knowing you control your life
From you there’s only one thing I will ask
That you spread this message to people you pass
Tell them “Lean in close and I’ll tell you a secret,
But first promise to spread it to whoever needs it.”
