Hold On
Every parent has a dream for their lives
And for their children’s
But somehow that transition from the dream to reality
Can sometimes grant you a tearful awakening
What you hope for may never show
And what you deny could even happen to you
Sometimes does…
When you least expect it to life can change
Some say that you have control over your destiny
But what happened to me was not my wishing
I raised four kids on my own
Working as a teacher then as a volleyball coach
Some people can sense when tragedy will strike and be ready to face it
Others could never prepare for it
I felt fine, that is until I collapsed
I went to the doctor and received the news that no one wants to hear
I had a brain tumor…
We tried a procedure but it failed
The only option left was brain surgery
The struggle to relearn how to talk and walk was extremely difficult
But nothing is ever easy
I remarried and life was running smoothly
For a while
People often regret not being able to say ‘I love you’
Or give an extra hug or kiss
But I had a nice farewell
Only I didn’t know that is was the last farewell
In 1999 there was a massacre at the Columbine High School
A majority of the shootings were in the library
Which was where my daughter was
Heartache had struck us again
But I learned something throughout these tribulations
I have become a stronger person
Sometimes being strong isn’t how well you can bare hardships
Or being able to lift heavy objects
Sometimes being strong is knowing when to let go
And when to hold on…
