The Story of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl

Slender fingers fumbled across the loom

The threads mingling back and forth

Slow with sorrow, the lines askew

All she wished for was to escape the north

She fell from the palace above all

Through hundreds of layers of mist, she saw

A boy hidden between the overgrown grass

Tending the cows, she descended in awe

Who said love at first sight can’t be true

That boy right there is living proof

Fingers laced, his breath against her cheek

It was all a lie, how can peasants be aloof

Soon came a delightful marriage

The stars in their eyes, their souls entwined

Inseparable, hand-in-hand, they faced

The god who said they were unrefined

The god slashed at the air with rage

Bursts of glittering stars weaved together

Between the couple formed the Silver River

The girl and the boy, separated in the aether

Tired fingers traced across the loom

The absence of love left a void

Deep in her heart that could only be mended

With the reunion she cannot avoid

Misery coated the girl’s weary soul

Whose face was pale and hollow

Months passed, few clothes were made

From the deep weaves of sorrow

One cannot live without affection

So the king allowed it to come true

The girl and the boy met at the place

Where thousands of magpies flew

Birds flapped as one, forming a holy bridge

Where the two ends meet the each side of the River

Tears poured down her cheeks as she ran

The feel of his embrace made her quiver

Bound by love, anguish, and agony

Laced together by a delicate thread

Drawn too tight, strains in the tether spread

Severed by birth - it’s their fate they cannot shed

Until the time has come again

They shall grow frail as they wait

Reunite again, fixed like the patches on blankets

Held together until the fibers loosen, they return to their fate
