Amelia Earhart, one of the best.

She flew and she flew, with barely a rest.

She tried so hard, put up a fight!

But, sadly, I know, she never found light.

Electra was… Decent.

She seemed very jolly!

She tried good and hard,

But by end was found folly.

They fell from the sky,

All hope was long lost.

Like a bird shot dead,

And endless was the cost.

But why do I say this?

I can only guess.

For Amelia Earhart is the one you should ask.

But alas, as I told you,

She took off in her plane,

Excited and happy,

A heart with no shame

Her flight seemed, yes, snappy.

We waited on arrival,

But arrival never came.

So we searched and we scavenged,

But zero found fame.

So I asked around,

But the expected came true

My life seemed to be over,

My heart was turned blue.

So goodbye my dear Millie,

You’ll forever be my girl.

I’ll miss you sweet darling,

Make heaven roar and swirl.

The author's comments:

I learned about Amelia Earhart in my history class a few years ago and decided to write a poem about her. She was the first woman pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic, and incase you’re wondering, ‘Electra,’ was the name of her airplane. Amelia set many records in her day, but she and her co-pilot disappeared on the last leg of their circumnavigational flight of the globe, supposedly running out of gas and crashing.
