A simpler time things used to be,

Before I knew what lies ahead of me

When boys and girls could just be friends

When we could all just pretend

The world is changing

It's like brand new,

However it still feels old and used

Chaos spreads as if on cue

As we age,

There's no time to waste

We stereotype people on sexuality, gender, or race

The world fills with rage

What do we do with this rage?

We take it out on others,

Friends, businesses, schools

A list of riots fills more than one page

Why doesn't someone do something?

People try but each time someone speaks out they are

Controlled, confined, silenced,

Told they have a bias

When will it end?

People have turned up dead,

Trying to pull ahead

When will our world mend?

We're all screwed

Violence is constantly renewed

I feel that we should review,

All the stuff we've been put through

10 year olds are pregnant

There's nothing they can do

No one even knew,

What she had been through

Students under desks,

Scared to take a breath

No one even knew,

There was someone in their school

Teens end up dead,

They wanted it to end,

Over something someone said

Because no one knew what was going through their head

Riots on the street,

Over something not agreed

Property damaged

I wish it would all just vanish

All this for what?

Money, power, edge?

Why the need to condescend?

Aren't we all people in the end?

I originally wrote this poem as extra credit for school.  After working on it a little bit I decided I wanted to share it.  Hope you enjoy!
