I Am Waiting
I am waiting for the unkindled to do something spectacular and dazzling
I am waiting for the talentless to keeping amazing others with their gift
I am waiting for the unique to keep being these lifeless computers
I am waiting for the balanced to fall flat
I am waiting for the lonely to keep loving their significant other
I am waiting for the homeless man to go home
I am waiting for the stranded man to wake up and go to work every day
I am waiting for the stream to flow backwards
I am waiting for that goat to sheer that human
I am waiting for that goldfish to put that human in that bowl
I am waiting for that cow to slaughter that human
I am waiting for that chicken to pluck that human
I am waiting for that vegetable to cook and season that human
I am waiting for that dog to walk that human
I am waiting for that deer to hunt that human
I am waiting for that tree to chop down that human
I am waiting for that stream to flow backwards
I am waiting for the student to instruct the teacher
I am waiting for the child to parent the adult
I am waiting for the civilian to shoot the soldier
I am waiting for the factory worker to pay the owner
I am waiting for the people to enforce the government
I am waiting for the stream to flow backwards
And as we descend into this sinkhole,
I wait for the people to complain
I wait for the people to question
I wait for the people to consider
I wait for the people to understand
I wait for the people to grow hopeless
I wait for the people to lose that sliver of humanity
I wait for the people to grow insane
I wait for the people to see that the stars don’t align
I wait for the people to see that the clock doesn’t count the time
I wait for the people to see that gravity doesn’t hold us down
I wait for the people to see that dying is the last part
I wait for the people to see that their shadow doesn’t follow them
I wait for the people to see that not everything has an answer
I wait for the stream to flow backwards
