I do not understand
why anyone could fail to see the truth;
why someone could look at a child and ask,
“Why are you so mature, yet so young?”
But most of all, I do not understand
why anyone thinks that an adult-like child is okay.
A child is a child, a child should be free.
A child should be outside playing in the mud,
not inside cooking dinner
because they’re the only one that can
and it’s either this
or starve.
What I understand most is why the cycle should be broken,
how a child who
speaks and acts like an adult
and is called
“the most responsible person in the house”
isn’t okay.
