I do not understand
   why people fight over things that are not important
   why a promise means nothing
   why we pretend to be what we are not
But most of all I do not understand
   why a best friend can become an enemy so fast
   when just yesterday you were their world
   when a boy can become more important
   then to who has been there for you all along
What I understand most are dogs
   wagging their tail over just simply
   the excitement to see you
   man’s best friend
   the world’s most faithful companion
   when to us they are a fraction of our lives
   but to them we are their whole lives
