An Ocean and a Sea
An ocean and a sea lie between our bodies
Oh, the waters I'd swim across to hear one last "I love you"
I'd gladly be swallowed by big, crashing waves
But instead, I swallow the lump in my throat as I remember there are more than just miles of salt-filled fluids between us
Tears prick my eyes and they begin to stream down my face
I'm drowning in the salt water that fills my open mouth
I long for your hands to wipe them away like they used to
Your big, strong hands, much too large for my own dwarfed ones to fit in
So, instead, I'd hold onto your thumb
But my hands have grown now, you know
Maybe they would even be able to hold yours properly
I choke back a sob as I write this poem
Too many memories of you and I swimming behind my eyes
I would much rather swim across the ocean and sea between our bodies
