Ever since she was small, her mother always said, “No.”
Every plea for an explanation was met with, “I said so.”
At 18 years old, she was finally free,
able to make her own decisions, no longer having to plea.
The first thing she decided, was to ink her skin.
When she doodled on her wrist, her mother treated it like sin.
Mother hated tattoos, thought they destroyed your body,
but the girl believed self-expression was beauty.
The ink on her skin gave her freedom from “No,”
and displayed that dreams don’t just end at “I said so.”
