The voice that sings songs from afar
May tomorrow, call a man to war.
The hands that clasp your hand and mine
May tomorrow, choke and kill swine.

The bright and innocent eyes
May tomorrow, be marked with lies.
The feet that are clothed with shining shoes
May tomorrow, run bare, with nothing to lose.

The author's comments:

The ending of The Lord of the Flies by William Golding inspired me to write this piece. The transformation of the boys throughout the book disturbed yet fascinated me at the same time, and I wanted to reflect those emotions in my poem.
