Let confidence be your only oar

The sun’s rays calling you to stand

Leave the shell of doubt sitting on the shore

Board the ship with dignity and valour

The long journey anything but planned

Let confidence be your only oar

Pull your anchor and refuse to moor

Failure as small as a grain of sand

Leave the shell of doubt sitting on the shore

Like the gulls and pelicans you can soar

The salty spray under your command

Let confidence be your only oar

The sun and the moon at war

As the tides wear away at the land

Leave the shell of doubt sitting on the shore

Crashing waves rooted deep in your core

The seas deemed soft solely by your hand

Let confidence be your only oar

Leave the shell of doubt sitting on the shore

This piece is a villanelle. I used the setting of the beach/ocean to encourage people to try new things and not be afraid to take risks.
