Lost Smile
The girl with her smile
That smile so bright
Has disappeared
Gone into the night
She was here one day
And gone the next
Leaving us wondering
Where she went
In truth, she is here
Lost somewhere inside me
But buried so deep
That she's probably hiding
Perhaps one day
She'll return once again
But we have quite a while
To wait until then

This poem is very emotional to me. It's based on a talk I had with my dad. After I had a breakdown one night, I was up in my room alone. My dad came in and sat down next to me on the bed. After a little while, he began to speak. After all this time, the words he spoke are forever embedded in my mind. Where is the little girl who always had a smile on her face? The little girl who was always laughing, always playing, with a carefree spirit? Where is she? And my answer? She's gone. Years have passed, and I'm learning how to smile again. But I'll never forget that night. The night that inspired my love of poetry. This is my first poem.
