You told me I could be silly still
You told me I should be silly still
But you never asked why I'm not silly still
You told me I shouldn't grow up just yet
But you never told me how to not grow up
You told me to take advantage of being young still
You didn't wait to hear my response
I am young still
And it's not the years that count
It's what you have to show for those years
So even if I act double or triple my age
It doesn't matter
I'm still me
I'm still young
And I do have fun
You kept on talking
You didn't wait for my answer
For my reply again
For me to counter what you thought
What you thought you knew
So I could prove you wrong
I am still young
You just don't see it
But I can prove it
I'm impulsive
I'm loud when I want to be
I can be happy
I can smile if I wanted to
I can be silly too
But I have no reason to be silly
I have no desire
And you said being serious isn't who I am
But what you saw was a fa'ade
I'm not what you say
What you saw
What you thought
So you too were impulsive
You're still young
Even though you try not to be
You might seem younger than me sometimes
And I might seem older sometimes
Age doesn't matter
It's what makes up your age
People can still be silly
Still be crazy
Still be wild
Still be them
They can still be what they want
So even though I shouldn't grow up just yet
I should still be silly and skip around
That might not be what I'm going to do
I can do what I want
What I chose
And I'll be me doing it all
I'll always be me
Even if I'm not always silly
Even if I missed the flight to Neverland
So I can't always be young like Peter Pan
I can be young when I want to
And older when I want to
It's my decision to be silly or not
My decision to put on a fa'ade or not
So silly isn't always who someone is
Or who someone wants to be
It's what I used to be
But it's not anymore

I wrote this thinking back on what happened to me, and as a result, what someone told me.
