He Said, She Said, You Said Goodbye.
I should have known not to grow attached but I forgot
the rules of caving in on one’s self when I met you
and you became the best friend I’d ever had, wrapping
your arms around me until I thought I’d choke but you
would have been there to pound my back and pound
my problems out, and then you’d lift me onto your
shoulders and from there I would see the world and think,
I’m not missing much; the view is better up here. But today,
I went to see our friend and asked for you and he said
you were at the party I’d heard whispered in the halls and I
said there was no way you would go without me, without us, but he
said you were already there; he said
you were already gone.
