Spring's Doom
Spring blooms,
a mother caresses
her rounding womb.
She sits at the window
watching new lambs
frolic and play.
Will today be the day
he returns home?
Her warrior, brave
and strong, has gone
off to the fight,
out from under her
watchful sight.
A car pulls in,
her heart flutters then.
She walks to the door,
then drops to the floor.
Handed to her is a letter
written in sympathy.
It tells her the father is dead.
