We fight for breath as tufts of hair drift form the scalp

and the body withers away

We endure suffering until our eyes grow dull

and our skin starts to decay

We watch bodies crash like dominoes on the ground

yet still strive to survive

We cling to sound and air and light

fighting to stay alive

So why do some fail to thrive?

The author's comments:

Two former classmates of mine recently committed suicide, and in this poem I ponder why so many people are so desperate to stay alive, while others choose to end theirs.
