Clouds darkened and water restled rough against the shore

The air turned a smoldering black

There was no looking back

My toes turned red as I raced along the rocky beach

I could almost taste it, pure happiness was just out of my reach

Each brutal wave sent water weaving through the rocks

I lost my footing and hit the ground, hard

I gathered my streghth to get up when something caught me off guard

A glimpse of my own reflection in the churning water

Anger seeped through and I felt my face get hotter

Without hesitation, my hand quickly slashed through it

So I didn’t have to face myself

The person I was

The person I am.

And the person I will always be
