When the past
Does shadows cast
On bedroom walls in the night
Remember, dear
You’re safe with me
There is no need to fright

When the present
Is not pleasant
And you’re in need of a friend
Remember, dear
I’m here for you
My love will never end

When the future
Cannot be sure
And furrows line your brow
Remember, dear
All will be well
Though we may not know how

No matter what befalls us, dear
No matter how bumpy the ride
Know I’ll always be right here
Standing at your side

The author's comments:

"Assurance" for me is a poem about the things I wish would be told to me one day by the man I will love. It is a universal poem though, and I believe that each of us can relate to it in a unique way. My hope is that readers will give "Assurance" their own meaning and allow it to burrow into their hearts and souls.
