My Mother
By the window
Stood my mother
Familiar though
I’ve never met her
Skin was pale
Cheeks were hollow
Tall and fair
With eyes of sorrow
Her nervous stance
Made my heart swell
She sought acceptance
I longed for as well
My father raised me
On his own
A lonely king
Upon his throne
But there she was
His lost queen
Once no one to me
Now she was everything
By the window
Stood my mother
A stranger though
I always loved her.
