The Future
The future, My future, Our future,
It’s in five days, it’s in five minutes, it’s even in five seconds
So when I get asked what I want to be in the future I want to
be able to say that I want to be me,
I want to be a strong empowered woman who works hard
and gets paid equally without having to be called bossy or even a feminazi,
I want to be able to walk down the street without having to feel
eyes claw at me or words flown at me from men I do not know,
I want to be able to take a walk without having to turn around because
I think someone might be following me but I can’t run because my
insecurities might overflow,
I want to be able to say that I indeed am gay but because of the hate
and bigotry I am no longer human because what makes me, me, is
apparently inhuman,
I want to be able to talk to my parents without having to lie to them
because you see they had my future planned out before I could say I
might not be headed that way,
So yes this is what I want my future to be, not a wanna be, not a soon to be,
simply that I’m going to be.
