That I might live with him
Would I forgive him for the selfish idea?
I assured him I was naturally hard,
Showed him divers rugged points in my character
While there was still time to rescind
He fretted pished and pshawed
I worked him up to considerable irritation
He was excellently entertained
I was wearing him to skin and bone
My future husband was becoming to me my whole world
He stood between me and any thought of religion
I had made an idol

This piece is a found poem from the novel Jane Eyre and is arranged so the meaning is that love is hard, but it takes sacrifices to be happy.
