A scared little boy
Lives in the Warsaw ghetto,
Waits for his mother

A pet companion
He’s lonely but not alone
Thousands feel his pain

A big kitchen knife
Learning to use a pistol
He should not know this

The love people show
The thoughts of hope and freedom
He will not know this

The pain of waiting
The suffering of the Jews
This is all he knows

I decided to write this while studying the Holocaust in school.

This was a wonderful, sensitive, moving poem that really captures the horror and sadness of the Holocaust. Excellent work, Connor!

Great poem. The images are powerful and sad. When I read it I could almost see the boy and feel his sadness, fear and pain.
