Securing the house

Alone
Atop a burning house,
Fuming black puffs of smoke
Rise from the orange inferno.
Racing
Toward the two story ladder
For a unique reason,
To secure the life of a house.
Why?
This is no ordinary house.
This is the house of life,
It breathes just as you and I.
Dragging onward
In the intense heat,
Bringing the refreshing breath of life
To douse the raging blaze.
Its smoke clears,
As the fire dies, withering as the last
Reminisce of the once
Great inferno disappears
With one last horrifying roar
