Persistence

As one woman marches through the crowds

of angry signs and shouting mouths
yelling adamantly about democracy
and all it stands for against plutocracy,
she catches a slight glimpse of a sign with words you can’t miss even if you blink:
SUPER CALLOUS FASCIST RACIST SEXIST HOMOPHOBIC.
At first it seems odd and out of place
but soon she sees that all the signs are faced
with debasing lines about the president
with empowering signs of women with all their bent
and scratched history of abuse and struggle
with even a baby girl being pulled out of the rubble
of perpetuating sexism and manly roars
but up and up and up she sores,
above the men and their existence,
“nevertheless, she persisted.”
