Some say it's holding on that makes us strong. But sometimes it takes so much more strength to just let go and move on.

The child in the corner
With nothing but a wall
No one there to care
To help break the fall
The child in the corner
With bruises black and blue
They cover the child from head to toe
Yet no one has a clue
The child in the corner
Afraid to disobey
Yet can never get it right
And gets hit anyway
The child in the corner
Afraid to make a move
So the child sits so stiff
To stay away from the abuse
The child in the corner
Has not a bite to eat
But in order to survive
To steal is what is needed
The child in the corner
Gets caught at school one day
Stealing money from a teacher
And was about to pay
The child in the corner
Was so scared to go home
The beatings so much worse
But there was nothing to be done
The child in the corner
Face to face with Death
Afraid to stay, afraid to go
Just one more blow to the chest
The child in the corner
Was soon to be set free
Of pain and fear and wickedness
But none know of what degree
The child in the corner
Now lives happily
Away from pain and struggle
Away from humility
The child in the corner
Will never be again
If you help me and I help you
Save a child who once was me

The author's comments:

This piece was inspired by my life story. I wrote this because I wanted people to know that were/are experiencing troubling times in their life that if i could survive what i went through, you can too... all you need is strenght, courage, and faith. By the way, I experienced this from the age of 4 to 8 1/2. so that should tell you that anything is possible if you just believe.
