A Special Day
He's always wanted a bike,
seeing all the children riding outside,
he begs and pleads,
wanting to join the others.
A special day arrives but no bike is given.
Things are thrown and voices rise,
sent to his room,
someone sees the exchange.
Smiling at him, the man beckons,
curiosity creeps through his mind,
and he climbs out the window.
Led inside he sees the big, pretty box,
a mere shape in the dark, it's open.
Staring for too long, a large figure stands over him,
a cold smile cracks a face wide open.
Taking hold of a trembling hand,
the man pulls him closer.
Long fingers thread through soft hair,
no sound made when he's shoved in the box,
Never to be seen again.
