Fright Night
Crows soaked in black with beady eyes
They circle around me, peering from the skies
Jack-o-Lanterns dance mockingly from porches
Radiating brightly from their inner torches
I clamber on down the dark paved street
Foraging for more houses to trick or treat
“Shouldn't have come alone” hisses a chill scare
But I know I'm hearing things, it's just the fall air
Suddenly, one by one, streetlights go out
Children scream, parents shout
Panic spirals through the town
Teenagers yell “it's the clowns!”
I stand and surveil from my dimly lit perch
Safely concealed behind a black birch
Click, click, click
The lights turn back on
And everyone in town is gone
Slowly leaving my security, I come out
A hand enclosed over my mouth before I can shout
White gloves masking the frosty hands
I'm petrified by the mysterious man
Spun around before I could think
Sudden terror pushing me over the brink
Call me crazy, injured in the crown
But I promise that day, I saw a killer clown
