The Man Two Pews in Front of Me
Whenever I go to church,
I can expect to see
The same guy who’s always there,
Sitting two pews in front of me.
When the preacher says to bow our heads
And close our eyes to pray,
The man will keep on bopping around,
And jerk in every which way.
When we are meant to be quiet,
Sit our stillest, and reflect,
That man will twist string, or bounce a ball,
Which children know is incorrect!
And when it’s time to gather and sing
Praises to the Lord,
While the rest of the church is in beautiful song,
A moan is all he can afford.
I used to think it rude of him
To disrespect God so,
Until I found he couldn’t help it.
(my father told me so)
I now realize what a beautiful sight
It really is to see,
A man bravely singing his best,
Two pews in front of me.
