Forgotten Fortress

Forgotten
For centuries and generations
Aging without notice
Decaying with the drop of sand in an hourglass.

A cool breeze drifts through a hall
Once filled with life
Now empty and silent
Begging for occupancy.

Sun beams linger on the gleaming, grassy lawn
Once a playground
Now an abandoned field
Screaming for visitors.

Lone footsteps echo in the breezeway
Once accompanied by many
Now unheard by all
Praying to be rid of this vacancy.

Ivory pillars collapse under pressure
Once beautiful and majestic
Now crumbling
Pleading to be discovered.

The fortress stands alone
Becoming one with nature
Vanishing from the rest of the world
Being forgotten'
