With searching eyes the monsters pass
Longing to find the room
That sheltered from the bright of night
Holds a synthetic moon

The stars outside have long been quelled
By stars upon the ground
The trees have grown despondently
With absent leaves they’re crowned

The city wakes irascibly
To constant hazy light
The people stumble to and fro
Accustomed to the sight

Seasons are but memories
Upon romantic tongues
City noise chokes everything
Heartbeats sound more like guns

The poor are numbered but a few
The rest are dead and gone
Yet in the twilight of their reign
The wealthy carry on
