Mistakes Happen
Up in the balcony…….
5,6,7,8, 1,2,3,4-
BOOM!
Mckenzie hit the ground.
“Oh my god”,
coach whispered softly.
I couldn’t have worded it better.
Tears ran down her face.
Nobody knew what to say.
We all stood there,
struck by surprise.
As she sat up,
you could hear the wisps of breath being released.
Not a soul new they were holding it.
The room was so quiet,
you could hear a pin hit a rug.
“Mckenzie?”
Katelyn slowly said.
She turned her head slightly,
and nodded.
Indicating she was going to be okay.
The room was still silent.
When she got up,
her eyes looked bloodshot.
Her facial expressions looked like a deer in headlights.
Her face was tear stained.
She wiped her face,
dusted herself off,
and smiled.
Although it was not her normal smile,
it was a relief to see it.
As I look back,
I realized that I should have caught her.
But as you know,
people make mistakes.
You can’t always be the hero.
