Jane Doe

Never expanding my horizons
I lived by the status quo
Blending into my society
I tried not to put on a show
Keeping hold on what I knew I could do
But was too afraid to try,
I clipped my wings and locked them away.
They'd never take me to the sky.
I always said I could save it for later,
But later came and went
Driven off by the fire which they say God sent,
I can't tell you who I was because
I never knew myself.
I locked me away in a little box and
Stuck me on a shelf,
Now my memory fades away in those who were my friends,
We had good times; they liked my well enough,
But they saw me through a lens.

This is from the point of view of a girl who died in a fire. After her death she looks back at her life and regrets her timid nature.
