Sensational Smell
I set foot through the front door, greeted by a sensational smell.
A smell I knew all too well.
Struggling to keep my wits and not venture into a trap,
I lay down and attempt to take a nice nap.
Minutes passed while I waited in bed.
I couldn’t get that smell out of my head.
I hurled my body up and bolted to the kitchen,
hopefully my brother will not be snitchin’.
I feast my eyes on the thick tender steak,
hoping my mom might take a petite break.
I grasp the keen fork and stab into the steak, oozing all over my hands.
My mom strolls in, a cookbook in hand, wondering why I ate her future dinner plans.
The walk of shame back upstairs, I wait for my next bite.
Only 30 more minutes and I will be all right.
The sensational smell, that I know all too well.
Will I ever learn to bake such a smell? Only time will tell.
