Echo's Tale
'I'm just a nymph, you probably don't know me.
For I am the one you never see.
But everywhere, both far and near,
I am the one you always hear.
I am Echo, you've heard that word.
I'm that voice that repeats you, chirping like a bird.
So here I am, in all my 'glory,'
Now let me tell you a little story.
It's all because of that hothead Zeus!
(There's reason his name rhymes with goose.)
He came to Earth, and got everyone's attention.
(And did some other things that I can't really mention.)
Hera, his wife, followed him there.
And what she did to me was so not fair!
She performed one of her famous feats,
I could no longer speak, I could only repeat.
Did this bother me? I went insane!
And then I fell in love, with someone so vain!
Have you heard of Narcissus, that handsome man?
When he learned that I loved him, he just ran!
So I prayed, without a sigh,
I prayed to the gods that I could die.
Aphrodite answered my prayer,
But not before she did solemnly swear,
That my voice would never be gone,
She loved its sound, so she let it live on.
So listen to me, wherever you go.
For I am your shadow, your echo.'
