Hurtful Disguise

When you turn the corner, and stumble down a hill,
You always knew someone who cared, someone who was real.
When your heart gets broken, and your feeling down and out,
I was always there to take your hand, to be without a doubt.
Whenever I hear talk, and hear your name in spite,
I was always there to tell you, to be for you what's right.
Then I ask you for a favor and instead of standing tall,
You run and push me off the ledge, you wait to watch me fall.
Once I'm down on the ground, and my face is in the dirt,
You kick me up and down my side, and bruise my soul with hurt.
So next time that you come around and want to laugh with me,
Think about the hurt you've caused, please, just try to see.
That everything I've done for you was purely out of love,
You were the one I always set, and held so high above.
Finally now I've seen the one beneath your cruel disguise,
And when I try to look at you, my heart begins to cry.
